The Importance of Your Local Law Library

A bit of research is necessary when deciding what the best course of action is in a legal matter. You could go to a public library to do research in the law but it’s unlikely that you will find the type of information that you need. The local law library is where law students, law clerks and attorneys do their research. The law libraries of law schools and county courthouses are also open to members of the public who have need to do research on matters of the law. Information such as U.S. Supreme Court decisions, volumes of American Jurisprudence and issues of various law reviews can be found in law libraries which are exactly the type of materials required to do meaningful legal research.

Navigating the wealth of information that can be found in a law library can be quite the challenge. Even legal professionals such as attorneys or law clerks need help finding the resources that they need. This is where legal reference librarians come in. Legal reference librarians perform many tasks within a law library but first and foremost, they are experts in legal research who can point you in the direction of the resources that can shed light on your legal questions.
